Joining the guild:
Handymen must first register their business with the UK Guild of Handymen.
Registration is FREE and allows you to be found using our Find a Handyman tool.

We
encourage all reputable and capable handymen to become full members which sets you apart from the 'cowboys'.
Membership entitles you to display our logo on your website, van or notepaper and says to the public we consider you measure up as a professional handyman.
Membership requirements
Individuals
Individuals are people engaged professionally in handyman work.
Individuals can gain guild membership by:
• successfully completing the online knowledge test
• certifying they have adequate public liability insurance
• agreeing to the terms and conditions and to abide by the code of conduct
• having at least three independent positive reviews (typically posted on FreeIndex or Qype or similar). See About reviews below...
• paying the membership fee
Corporate and partnership
The purpose of the guild is to ensure sure each individual member is a capable handyman. Accordingly, it not possible to have blanket membership to cover all employees or partners within an organisation trading as a handyman business. However individuals are welcome to apply for membership (as set out above) and are able to rely on the public liability insurance cover held by the organisation.
In addition they can rely on reviews given for the organisation but the organisation will be required to have at least five independent positive reviews (typically posted on FreeIndex or Qype or similar). See About reviews below...

If you run a handyman franchise operation or you are a handyman franchisee please contact the guild to discuss how we may be able to offer membership to you.
About reviews
Having customers rate your work as a handyman is very important to UK Guild of Handymen membership because it gives people confidence in your abilities. The best place to accumulate reviews is FreeIndex where you can register for FREE. Anytime you complete a job you can then email your customer to ask them for a review on FreeIndex. If you have done a good job they will normally be delighted to say so. FreeIndex is popular and widely trusted with safeguards in place so people can't review themselves or 'fudge' several reviews from the same computer.
Taking the online knowledge test
After you have registered, a link will appear on the 'Your details' page enabling you to take the online test if you wish. Taking the test does not commit you to continuing to become a full member or require you to pay anything.

1) Your full contact details appear in your listing so customers can contact you easily.
2) You are listed above non-members working in the search postcode area (30 miles maximum).
3) You can say you are a guild member which has kudos and gives you an advantage over your competitors.
4) You have the backing of the guild for disputes resolution, advice, etc.
5) You get two free UK Guild of Handymen Member van stickers.
6) You are eligible to enter our Handyman of the Year competition
